Mayo learner drivers are in fear of losing their cars

Some 1,700 cars have been seized nationally from unaccompanied learner drivers since the end of last year, something Erris Councillor Gerry Coyle is against.

He highlighted the 'scandal' of a woman who was afraid to bring her children to the school bus as she only has a provisional licence.

Yet, she could drive a load of drunk people home and the car could not be taken from her.

He knew of another professional lady who failed her test, as well as a man. “Is there any leeway for these people,” he asked.

Councillor Coyle also requested to know how many cars have been seized in Mayo.
