IT'S that time of the year again and the best farming, culture and Irish food event - the National Ploughing Championships - is underway in Co. Carlow.

A local small business, Bia at Home, is representing Mayo in the Local Enterprise Village supported by the Local Enterprise Office Mayo.

Bia at Home is a food catering business offering healthy, home-cooked dinners delivered nationwide. It is owned and run by Michelle McGrath Kerrigan from Cong.

Explained Michelle: “I was born and reared in Cong, and formally trained in Killybegs Culinary College. After college I worked in Ireland for a few years and then set off on an adventure, travelling around the world, before settling in Brisbane, Australia. I have now returned home after 15 years to the west of Ireland and set off on my new adventure running my own business, Bia at Home.

I have been given a great opportunity with the help of the Local Enterprise Office Mayo to attend the National Ploughing Championship, and they have provided me with support and mentoring to prepare for the big event and excel my business in the future. It is invaluable to me as a small business owner and enables me to showcase my products nationwide.”

I preserve the food using a blast freezer which retains the nutrients and flavours naturally. The meals are served in individual portion packs, which can go directly into the oven from your freezer. I personally deliver directly to your freezer door to ensure your food travels safely and reaches you in optimal condition for you to enjoy in your own home. So all a busy customer has to do is place the order and heat it up and enjoy their food. It’s flexible, economic, healthy and convenient,” said Michelle.
