Taoiseach opens Castlebar medical device facility

TAOISEACH Leo Varadkar was in Castlebar this afternoon (Friday) to officially open Fort Wayne Metals' new medical device facility.

Based at the Moneen Business and Technology Park, the facility is a significant boost to the town of Castlebar.

Since commencing its operations in Castlebar in 2002 with almost 15 employees, Fort Wayne Metals Ireland has grown significantly and now employs close to 93 staff.

Commented Fine Gael election candidate Alan Dillon after the opening: “A key focus for this current Fine Gael led government is balanced regional development. Through Enterprise Ireland and the IDA, supporting existing companies to transform, expand and growing jobs is as important as attracting new FDI companies into the area.

Fort Wayne Metals has been an important employer in Castlebar since 2002. It is a real success story and this official opening of its new facility by An Taoiseach further safeguards its position as an international organisation thriving in the county.

I’d like to acknowledge and give credit to its highly skilled staff who’s dedication and commitment make its Castlebar operation the success it is. This new facility opening is a great endorsement, and one that gives confidence in Castlebar and the region as a great location for other similar type medical device, pharmaceutical or life science operations.”
