Castlebar vies for Enterprise Town Award

CASTLEBAR Town put its best foot forward yesterday (Wednesday) when it hosted the Bank of Ireland Enterprise Town Awards adjudicators.

The adjudication process, which took three hours, got under way at the GMIT campus where dozens of local businesses welcomed the judges to their stands that had been set up at 8 a.m.

The process included a 90-minute formal presentation, a tour of Castlebar town showcasing its businesses and amenities, including a tour of Baxter, and finishing with a tour of Turlough Park House and Museum.

The submission, which was driven by Castlebar Chamber of Commerce, was organised by a steering committee which brought together members of the many groups and organistaions in Castebar, including local businesses, LEO and Mayo County Council.

The steering committee that submitted the original entry to include Castlebar in this year's awards comprised John Mulroy, president, Castlebar Chamber of Commerce, Bernard Hughes, The Connaught Telegraph, and Ann Conlon from All About Sales, committee chairperson.

Castlebar has also been shortlisted in the Rising Star Award category which will be judged on October 7. Award winners will be announced in early December.
