Plans for emergency accommodation centre on Mayo island revealed

AN emergency public meeting is being held in Achill tonight to discuss plans to provide an emergency accommodation centre on the island.

Local Fianna Fáil Councillor Paul McNamara confirmed to The Connaught Telegraph that the Department of Justice has awarded a three-month contract for the accommodation to be put in place at a location in Keel which is widely known to local people.

The meeting gets underway at 8.30 p.m. at Keel Hall.

It is understood there is strong opposition to the proposal.
