The late John Quinn

Death of former Mayo Garda Sergeant

The death of John Quinn, Riverside, Newport Road, Castlebar, has evoked an immense sense of loss and sadness across a wide area.

A native of Conagher, Milltown, County Galway, he was held in very high regard throughout Mayo.

A retired Garda Sergeant, he served in a number of communities in the county during his distinguished career, including Ballyglass, Newport and Castlebar, and is fondly remembered as a fair and good-natured officer who generally got on well with people.

Following his retirement from the force, he operated a taxi business in the county town for a number of years and was always kind and courteous in his dealings with people.

John had a keen interest in current affairs and politics throughout his life and enjoyed nothing better than a good conversation about the main topic dominating the news agenda of the day.

He was a great family man and neighbour who was always willing to lend a helping hand to those who needed it.

Blessed with a fine sense of humour and a love of sport, he will be sadly missed. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

Predeceased by his sister Breege, John is survived by his wife Mary, sons Tomas, Seamus and John, daughters Edel, Sinead and Paula, brothers Billy, Tom and Tony, sisters Mary, Sarah, Teresa and Patricia, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, sons-in-law and daughters-in-law, to whom heartfelt sympathy is extended.
