Former League of Ireland ace sets sights on Mayo GAA squad

Former League of Ireland star Gary Boylan has declared his interest in playing for the Mayo senior football squad next year after starring for his native county in last Saturday's win over the TG4 Underdogs at Elvery's MacHale Park.

The Erris man scored 1-5 in a man of the match performance as the home side registered to a 3-11 to 0-8 victory.

It was Boylan's first time to wear the green and red jersey since he played in Mayo's All-Ireland MFC semi-final defeat to Kerry in 2014.

The former Sligo Rovers and Cork City player told the Hogan Stand afterwards: "The last time I played Gaelic before this, properly, was minor level. I'd like to give it a go now at senior level to see how it goes.

"Having finished up with the soccer, my ambition now is to try and break into a Mayo squad. So that's where I see myself going forward. Hopefully, it works out."
