Terrific Tooreen advance to provincial semi-final

Tooreen .............................0-29

Four Roads (Roscommon) 0-19

TOOREEN qualified for the Connaught club intermediate hurling championship semi-final following their brilliant 10-point victory over Roscommon champions, Four Roads, in the quarterfinal played in Athleague yesterday.

This was Tooreen hurling at its best as they produced a magnificent all round team display coupled with perfecting the wonderful skills of the game.

Rock solid in defence, the forwards saw plenty of the ball and used it to great effect.

Indeed, 27 minutes into the game all six forwards had put their name on the scoreboard.

However, to the forefront in the scoring department was Sean Kenny from frees, and Fergal Boland from play. Between them they accounted for over half of Tooreen's scores.

In the opening half both sides traded points on a number of occasions before Tooreen gained the upper hand in the closing seven or eight minutes of the half.

By the time they went off for the interval break they had a six-point advantage, 0-16 to 0-10.

There was no let up on this wonderful game after the resumption as both sides continued to score points that would have more than done justice to any game.

But there was going to be no denying Tooreen and after landing another 13 points in this half they ended up the easy and deserving winners.

Tooreen will now face the London champions next weekend in Connaught semi-final with Athleague again the venue.
