Ciaràn McDonald

A big appointment announced by Mayo GAA

THE Mayo GAA County Board has announced a major appointment ahead of the 2020 season.

Former star Ciaràn McDonald is joining the county senior football squad's management team under James Horan.

The Crossmolina ace, one of the most talented players ever to don the green and red, accepted an invitation from Horan to become involved in a coaching role.

The news will be warmly welcomed by Mayo supporters.

Aged 44, he starred for Mayo from 1994 to 2008 and has been a coach with the Mayo GAA academy for the past number of years.

James Horan said McDonald's experience, vision and skill will be of huge benefit to the Mayo squad.

McDonald stated he is relishing the opportunity of working with the players.

Mayo will begin the defence of their National League title against Donegal on Ballybofey on January 25.
