Storm caused significant damage last night

THE communications office at Mayo County Council has confirmed that last night's storm caused significant damage across the county.

Several incidents of branches and trees down have been reported in various locations around the county and call-out crews worked late into the night in very challenging conditions and are currently still dealing with these incidents.

With the benefit of daylight, a full assessment of all areas will be carried out by council personnel and they are advising the public to report any trees down and debris causing issues to report to their local area offices, as follows:

Belmullet 097 81004

Westport 098 50400

Ballina 096 76100

Ballinrobe 094 954 1029

Castlebar 094 906 4000

Claremorris 094 937 2310

As a result of the wind overnight, Mayo County Council is urging the public to continue to exercise caution as you go about your daily routines.

Any updates in relation to trees down or roads compromised will be posted on the Mayo County Council website as well as all social media channels.

At 9 p.m. last night Met Éireann issued a status orange wind warning for Mayo and Galway. This was valid until 1 a.m. this morning.
