Fresh concerns raised over future of Mayo nursing home

THE cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council has raised fresh concerns over the future of McBride Nursing Home in Westport.

In a statement tonight, Councillor Brendan Mulroy stated: "It has came to my attention that not only is the daycare services in McBride Home, Westport, suspended but the respite services are also suspended.

"Families and people who need respite and daycare facilities are being treated disgracefully.

"This is shocking from the HSE and another downgrading of services.

"Every excuse in the world has been used by the HSE over the last year and now it is time to call a halt to it.

"Staffing has been highlighted as a problem but everyone knows if you offer people proper permanent contracts the jobs will be filled.

"The staff who work in the home are fantastic and it is unfair on them and they are doing their very best.

"I have been asked by a lot of people to highlight this situation again.

"It is time for the elected representatives and the people of Westport to come together and protest and save this invaluable service for the people of this community. Enough is enough ."
