Ireland's Future founder to contest general election

LOCAL election candidate and founder of Ireland's Future, Gerry Loftus, has announced he will be a candidate in the upcoming general election.

Mr. Loftus says he sees this as a critical election for the people of Mayo and the country.

He commented: “We are not being treated equally and we must get representation for the west.”

A meeting that was organised prior to the election being called will still go ahead. The meeting of the general public hosted by Ireland's Future will take place in the TF Royal Hotel on Thursday, January 23, at 8.30 p.m.

Mr. Loftus said this was promised during the local election campaign and is taking place out of concern for staff and patients at Mayo University Hospital.

A modular unit promised some years ago hasn't been delievered and working conditions at the hospital are now 'intolerable', he said, with the health service itself in crisis.

The public must now stand up and demand that the must vunerable in society be protected, he said.
