Death of Castlebar woman in New York

THE death has taken place in Long Island, New York, USA, of Sheila Horohoe, nee Redmond, late of Spencer Street, Castlebar.

She emigrated to the US the age of 17, where she met her husband-to-be, Jimmy Horohoe, who passed away some years ago.

Aged 85 years, Shelia was daughter of Andy and Molly Redmond, who ran Redmond’s Cafe on Spencer Street, Castlebar, where the successful All-Ireland winning Mayo teams of 1936 and 1950 were feted after their historic wins.

Shelia is survived by her son John, daughter Rosemarie and her twin brother, Tommy, the last remaining member of the Redmond family, her son-in-law Michael, daughter-in-law Lise, grandchildren and great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by brothers Andy (Balloor, Castlebar) and John, and her sisters Chrissie Dolan (Riverdale Court, Castlebar), Bessie, Mary, Evelyn and Patsy.

Burial will take place in New York.
