The Mayo Male Voice Choir will perform at a very exciting Mayo Music Extravaganza Concert along with a multitude of other performers at the Royal Theatre in Castlebar on Friday night, February 28, at 8 p.m.

It’s a busy year ahead for the ever-popular 52-member choir, as the choir celebrates its 20-year anniversary.

The choir sings from a wide-ranging and entertaining repertoire including classical, popular, musicals, ballads, sacred and Irish classics.

Under the direction of Ms Deirdre Lee since its inception the choir has won many prizes at choral festivals and has performed all over Ireland, the UK, Germany and the Czech Republic.

In April the choir is embarking on a trip to New York, with several events planned including two notable performances - a public Sacred Music Performance in St. Patrick’s Cathedral, New York at 1.45 p.m.on Wednesday, April 15, and a public concert in the Irish American Center in Mineola, NY, at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 17.

The concert in the Royal Theatre, Castlebar, will also feature several other performers across many music genres. International vocal soloists - Baritone David Durham, Tenor Hugh Francis and Mezzo Soprano Anne Marie Gibbons. Uileann Piper David Moynihan, Castlebar Concert Band, Mayo Concert and Youth Orchestras and Castlebar Parish Choir.

Proceeds will go towards the fit-out of the very impressive Mayo Academy of Performing Arts (MAPA) building, which features modern and acoustically sensitive rehearsal and tuition spaces for all community music and performing arts groups and individuals.

The building, located at Breaffy Road Retail Park, Castlebar, is now at an advanced stage and due to open in early 2020 as a self-sustaining, not for profit rehearsal and tuition facility.
