End of an era for Mayo as Enda Kenny's constituency office closes

FORMER Taoiseach and long-serving Mayo TD Enda Kenny has announced the closure of his constituency office at Tucker Street in Castlebar following his retirement.

It marks the end of an era for one of Ireland's best known and most respected political families. 

A public notice was placed in the window of the premises over the weekend to thank people for their support over the years.

It reads: "Thank you for your trust, your loyalty and your support since 1975.

"It has been a privilege and a joy to serve the people of Castlebar and Mayo in Dáil Éireann.

"It has also been a unique privilege and honour to serve as your Taoiseach and to lead our country out of the economic recession. Thank you. Slán."

There is a further notice indicating the location of newly-elected Fine Gael TD Alan Dillon's constituency office less than 100 yards away at the junction of New Antrim Street and Linenhall Street.
