Counterfeit money warning for businesses

BUSINESS owners have been warned to stay vigilant to the circulation of fake notes.

There has been an increase in the amount of counterfeit currency, Superintendent Joe McKenna told a meeting of the Mayo Joint Policing Committee, particularly in the Claremorris district.

There have been arrests, he said, with on detection by gardaí in Claremorris resulting in a haul of €20,000 in euro notes and £6,000 Sterling notes.

A sum of €1,000 was seized in a detection in Ballyhaunis.

Business owners and their staff are advised to keep an eye on the situation.
