Karateka James is a winner on merit

The next Merit Award winner in The Connaught Telegraph Young Sports Stars Awards is a karateka.

James Lynskey, a member of MASK Karate Club, competed at the College Intervarsities held in DCU in April, where he won a gold medal in team kumite (fighting), while he also took silver in kata (form) and bronze in kumite individual event.

James also competed at the official Onakai National Junior Championships, where he won gold at Under 21 kata, gold at Under 21 kumite and silver at -84kg kumite

James trains under the guidance of the coach Sensei Kevin Loftus and Sensei Marie Dolphin, who is the national kata coach and has been impressed by the achievements of this young man in 2019.
