Teenager dies in Galway traffic accident

A TEENAGE girl has died in a road traffic accident in Oughterard, Co. Galway - bringing to seven the number of people who lost their lives on Irish roads since Friday.

She was a passenger in a car which crashed at around 1.15 a.m. and was she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body has been removed to University Hospital Galway where a post-mortem examination will be carried out.

The driver, a  21-year-old man, escaped without serious injuries.

The teenager's death brings to seven the number of people who have died on Irish roads since Friday.

Yesterday, three people - including a mother and son - were killed in a two car collision on Co. Louth and a man in his 20s died after he was struck by a lorry in Co. Monaghan.

On Friday evening, a man and a woman, both in their 60s, died in a road crash in Co. Cavan.
