Community events cancelled

AT this stage, many community events have been postponed or cancelled in response to the ongoing coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak.

FIRST MAYO SCOUTS: Mayo Scouts Castlebar are cancelling all section meetings until further notice.

WESTPORT FRC: Westport Family & Community Resource Centre closed to the public today (Friday). The centre will reopen again on Monday, March 30, with the situation under constant review.

All groups, projects and activities at the centre are now suspended. Staff will be on hand to offer information, support and advice through their information and advice line on (086) 1457293, Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 5 p.m.

The centre is working with other local services and organisations to ensure that everyone in the community is taken care of over the coming weeks. They will also be coordinating a volunteer team to ensure people who are isolated can access food and medicine. If you need essential supplies, please contact (086) 1457293 and they will arrange for a pick-up/delivery to ensure you have what you need. They can also be contacted via email on westportfrc@gmail.com.

 

 

KILMOVEE COMMUNITY CENTRE: Kilmovee Community Centre will remain open Monday-Friday from 9.30-5.30 - Meals on Wheels, Laundry, Recycling Centre, Payment of bills are all ongoing. However, classes and activities are suspended until further notice. Staff will be available to assist anyone who needs assistance over the next couple of weeks and will check in with people who visit the centre - please call (094) 9649484 if you need anything.

 


BALLYHAUNIS BC: Ballyhaunis Boxing Club has closed in line with statements issued by the IABA. The Connaught championships due to take place this weekend in Castlerea are also cancelled.



SWINFORD DRAMA GROUP: The annual stage production by Swinford Drama Group is postponed until further notice.



PIPE BANDS OF ACHILL: Following on from the outbreak of COVID-19 and the advice from government, the pipe bands of Achill met last Tuesday and again yesterday (Thursday) and have taken the difficult decision to cancel their traditional St. Patrick’s Day celebration. The pipe bands have not taken this decision lightly, but in the interest of public health and safety feel it is a responsible and necessary one to make - St. Patrick's Pipe Band, Dooagh, Pollagh Pipe Band, Keel Pipe Band, Dookinella Pipe Band, Tonregee Pipe Band.



CLAREMORRIS DRAMA & FRINGE FESTIVAL: the Amateur Drama Council of Ireland have made the decision to cancel the remainder of the 2020 drama Festival. If you have any queries in relation to other upcoming events please contact the Box Office on (094) 9310999.


MAYO YOUTH ORCHESTRA: Following the directive of the Chief Medical Officer regarding Covid-19, MYO will not be performing in Westport this weekend (March 14th) and orchestra rehearsals are postponed until further notice.



WESTPORT TOWN HALL: Westport Town Hall regrets to inform its patrons that due to ongoing developments and on the advice from authorities regarding the Corona Virus Pandemic, it has no option but to postpone all theatre events, classes and workshops at Westport Town Hall Theatre in the interests of health, safety and wellbeing until March 29, 2020. They will be working with performing groups, promoters and facilitators of all events, workshops and classes to reschedule its programme where possible.



MUSEUM OF COUNTRY LIFE: The National Museum of Ireland – Country Life will remain closed until March 29. All events have been cancelled until then.



BALLA BINGO: There will be no bingo in Balla Community Centre on Monday, March 16, or Monday, March 23. More updates at a later date.



CHERNOBYL CHILDREN CASTLEBAR: A night of singing by Rock ‘n’ Roses choir in Castlebar Tennis Club on Friday, March 20, in support of Chernobyl Children Castlebar, has been cancelled.



RACQUETBALL: The Racquetball Association of Ireland, in view of government advice, have cancelled a number of tournaments. They include the 29th Castlebar Open, which ws due to be held on March 28 and 29. The All-Ireland singles and doubles in April will be reviewed as the situation develops.



SWINFORD MOCK WEDDING: The mock wedding due to take place in Swinford this Saturday (March 14) in aid of the Down Syndrome Ireland regional centre and playground has been postponed. A new date will be announced in the future.



CLOGHER ACTIVE AGE: Clogher Active Age group has suspended meetings for the next two weeks. The situation will continue to be monitored and it is hoped to resume on April 1, but the group will be guided by HSE advice and regulations.



CROAGH PATRICK HERITAGE TRAIL FESTIVAL: Croagh Patrick Heritage Trail Festival 2020 has fallen victim to Covid-19 and in the best interests of all concerned the event has been cancelled. It is hoped that the festival can be staged in early autumn.



SHRULE AUTOJUMBLE: Shrule Vintage Club have decided to cancel their autojumble in the interests of public health. MAYO CANCER SUPPORT: The Stoma Support Group meeting arranged for Thursday, March 19, has been cancelled due to coronavirus (Covid-19). The resumption of meetings, when permissible, will be announced by Mayo Cancer Support.


MAYO CONCERT ORCHESTRA: Mayo Concert Orchestra has cancelled weekly rehearsals until further notice.



NEWPORT 300 EVENT: The planned performance of Handel's Messiah in Newport on April 5 has been postponed to later in the year.



EASTER PARADE: The annual Easter parade and family day is called off.



CASTLEBAR TIDY TOWNS: The annual clean-up of the N5 roadway in Castlebar by members of the local Tidy Towns Committee, scheduled for Saturday, March 28, is not going ahead.
