Concerns over lack of social distancing at west holiday spots

A WEST of Ireland TD has raised concerns over a lack of social distancing at holiday locations in the region.

Deputy Èamon Ò Cuìv highlighted "disturbing reports from Achill of people travelling to the area, failing to observe social distancing and putting local people at risk."

He continued: "I’ve heard similar reports from Connemara.

"I would appeal to people to respect local communities and keep your distance and that includes when in shops and outside."

Earlier today, Donegal TD Pàdraig MacLochlann revealed he has been inundated with complaints from across Donegal this weekend about large numbers of people travelling to holiday homes, caravan parks and the beaches from outside areas.

He said families have been asked to remain in their primary homes, not their second homes, mobile homes or caravans, and to shop locally and go for walks (while social distancing by at least two metres) locally.

He stated caravan parks should not be open at this time anywhere on the island of Ireland.

"The government need to call for this as soon as possible. This is not a holiday period. This is a national emergency," he added.
