Making case for Westport marina and Clew Bay masterplan

WESTPORT Tourism Organisation (WTO) is putting forward a case for the development of a marina at Westport Harbour and also for a masterplan for Clew Bay.

The organisation is preparing a submission to go forward as part of the public consultation process relating to the Draft National Marine Planning Framework (DNMPF). The closing date is 12 midday on April 30.

The DNMPF has to consider every aspect of Ireland's maritime coastline and draw up a masterplan for its protection and development. That includes the infrastructure of jetties and harbours.

WTO has worked in a voluntary capacity for over 30 years to develop tourism in Westport.

It is the organisation's belief that the bay is the key to the future development of the Clew Bay area.

Said a spokesperson: “We are so lucky to share such an exceptional natural resource. We need now to begin to take greater ownership and responsibility for the bay's future.”

This presents an unmissable opportunity to put forward the case for the development of a marina at Westport Harbour and also a masterplan for Clew Bay.

WTO is appealing to individuals, groups, clubs and companies directly connected with Clew Bay to make submissions so it is strongly represented in the public consultation.

You can contact WTO by email at westporttourismorganisation@gmail.com and they will share their submission, or you can sign your name to the WTO submission.

Ultimately, Westport Tourism Organisation believes that every generation needs to be ambitious for the future, for the legacy we can leave for those coming after us. A marina for Westport and the development of recreational and commercial activity on Clew Bay is, WTO believes, by far the best we can do for the generation coming after us.

They appeal to all with an interest in the DNMPF to come on board with them or make your own voice heard during this public consultation. The opportunity may not arise again.
