Criteria outlined for grass cutting in Castlebar public areas during Covid-19
A MEMBER of Mayo County Council has outlined the criteria for the cutting of grass in public areas during the Covid-19 outbreak.
Councillor Ger Deere said it will be carried at the following locations.
At junctions to maintain vision.
Along footpath edges to assist in maintaining social distance and safety.
In green areas used for sports events or recreation that may deteriorate significantly if not kept under control.
Areas where there are vulnerable residents.
Areas with utility infrastructure that will need to be kept visible and accessible.
Based on the above criteria, the following areas will be targeted on a phased basis in the next fortnight while keeping in line with government and HSE Covid-19 guidelines.
The Mall, St. Patrick's Avenue, Marion Row, Turlough Road junctions, Riverdale Court, Thomas Street, Lower Charles Street, Aurivo and the town park entrance, Fr. Meehan Place, Springfield Court, ring road junctions, Claremorris Road, Ballinrobe Road, Westport Road, Peace Park, Newport Road junctions, Town Park paths and paths along Lannagh.
Councillor Deere said: "Note that areas may appear untidy for the first few cuts and work will start on a phased basis.
"We also do not want to encourage the public to start using public spaces against HSE advice.
"The use of tractor mower, ride-on mowers, lawnmower, and blowers will vary according to location.
"The next phase will be larger green areas in estates and junctions and areas along paths."
