Critical care unit of Mayo University Hospital is Covid-19 free for third consecutive day

The Covid-19 statistics from Mayo University Hospital remain very positive as the month of June starts.

According to figures released by the HSE last night, the facility's critical care unit has not had to treat a virus case for a third consecutive day.

Furthermore, no new suspected cases have been admitted to the hospital for 72 hours.

However, the HSE revealed there are still eight confirmed cases under care at the Castlebar hospital, as of 8 p.m. yesterday (Sunday).

There are 33 vacant general beds and three vacant critical care beds at the centre.

An elected member of Mayo County Council, Councillor Peter Flynn, said the positive news from the hospital 'should be shouted from everyone's roof-top'.

He said there is a need, however, to get the message out to people about the importance of having all health concerns checked out and various treatments resumed.

"Unfortunately other ailments and diseases haven't gone away and they need to be addressed.

"We are lucky to have some great medical people and decent facilities in our county but people need to let their understandable fear go and have faith in our people and systems," he added.
