Ninth day without a new suspected Covid-19 case at Mayo hospital

A ninth day has passed without a new suspected Covid-19 case being admitted to Mayo University Hospital.

During the period in question, no Covid-19 patient has been in care in the facility's critical care unit (ICU).

However, one new confirmed case was registered at the Castlebar hospital yesterday, a HSE report compiled at 8 p.m. on Saturday revealed.

It brought the number of confirmed cases being treated at the hospital to seven, the sixth highest in the country behind the Mater (31), Tallaght (19), Limerick (11), Galway (9) and the Beaumont (9).

The number of vacant general beds in Castlebar increased by 15 to 32 and there are no vacant critical care beds.

The Health Protection Surveillance Centre has this evening reported that, according to figures measured at midnight on Friday, there were no new confirmed Covid-19 cases recorded for any of the five Connaught counties, leaving Mayo at 570, Galway 481, Roscommon 337, Sligo 128 and Leitrim 84.

The HPSC was informed today that one person died from Covid-19, bringing the total to 1,679 in Ireland.

As of midnight Saturday, the HPSC was notified of 25 new confirmed cases of the virus. There is now a total of 25,201 confirmed cases in the country, 91% of which have recovered to date.
