Young entrepeneur launches sports gear business

MANY young students have great experiences of doing Transition Year in secondary school, but how many do you know that started their own business?

Well, that is exactly what 16-year-old Ronan Hughes has done.

A native of The Neale and now a Fifth Year student at Ballinrobe Community School, he started Hughsey Sports in Transition Year, a sports gear business that can supply everything including jackets, half zips, crew necks, training jerseys, shorts, socks, gloves, training footballs and much more.

Ronan designs all the gear himself using an app called Illustrator and credits studying Technical Graphics as major help in the design process.

The Neale GAA minor team. Ronan (back row, third from right) sponsored the jerseys.

He has already made a name for himself on the GAA pitch in recent years. He features for The Neale GAA and Ballinrobe CS teams - he sponsored The Neale's minor team, on who he plays for, a set of new jerseys - as well as being a member of the Mayo minor football team that won the Connaught minor football championship last year.

Now he looks set to rival the best sports gear companies the country has to offer. He is wished all the best in this venture.
