Political anger over Oireachtas Committee's snub of Mayo airport

A Mayo senator has hit out over the failure by the Oireachtas Joint Committee of Transport and Communications to invite representatives of Ireland West Airport Knock to attend today's session.

On the agenda are the issues of aviation and Brexit.

Senator Paddy Burke said he was disappointed to learn a delegation from the Mayo airport was not invited to attend.

This is despite the fact that representatives of Shannon, Dublin and Cork airports are in attendance.

The Castlebar Fine Gael representative hit out: "This snub for the west region is unacceptable.

"Ireland West Airport Knock is such a key infrastructure for the west of Ireland and it was a wrong call not to give the facility an opportunity to make a presentation at such an important meeting.

"I am lodging an official complaint about the matter."
