Mayo solicitor appointed a judge

A MAYO solicitor, Ms. Sandra Murphy, has been appointed a judge.

Her appointment to the District Court was warmly welcomed at a sitting of Castlebar Circuit Court today.

Ms. Murphy, of Gilmartin & Murphy Solicitors in Kiltimagh, has been a great colleague and an active member of the Solicitors Bar Association in Mayo, State Solicitor Mr. Vincent Deane told the court.

She will, he said, make a great judge, bringing her talents and good judgement to the bench, and he wished her well.

Ms. Murphy is daughter of the late Patsy Murphy, former county registrar, and is married to solicitor Charlie Gilmartin.

Barrister Mr. Diarmuid Connolly, BL, also expressed his delight at her appointment to the bench, saying she is a 'fantastic addition'.

He too noted how proud her father would have been to see her appointment, which was thoroughly deserved.

Judge Rory MacCabe agreed that Ms. Murphy will be a great asset to the bench, while Ms. Fiona Kelly of the Courts Service also extended good wishes on her new career.
