Major development for primary school in Ballina

THE major new development for Scoil Naomh Bríd, Culleens, Ballina, has moved to the e-tenders process, Deputy Alan Dillon has confirmed. Submission for Interest of Assessment has been sought through e-tender with formal tendering to follow.

The new 2,469sqm single storey school building will include 12 new classrooms, special needs unit, parking, landscaping, boundary treatments, site works and ancillary services.

“The development of this new primary school for Ballina is very welcome for the pupils and staff of the school,” said Deputy Dillon. “This is one of a number of projects approved for Mayo by the Department of Education since the start of June.

“Recent approvals locally include St. Mary's Secondary School, Ballina, St. Oliver Plunkett NS, and Bonniconlon NS.

“All of these investments in our educational facilities around Mayo create additional capacity for pupils and better teaching environments.”

Deputy Dillon said in recent months he has been strongly prioritising shovel-ready projects. Getting these labour-intensive projects off the ground is key to providing local economic growth and jobs around Mayo.

“I look forward to the building works commencing at Scoil Naomh Brid and want to wish Clair Cooke, principal, board of management, staff and pupils the best of luck with this exciting new development.”
