Laochra Mhaigh Eo is an exciting new Mayo GAA project

Mayo GAA has launched an exciting new project called Laochra Mhaigh Eo – a celebration 'wall' at MacHale Park, Castlebar, to commemorate past successful teams, people and achievements.

The wall will commence with the 1936 All-Ireland winning team and work on from there to the '50 and '51 teams, and will also look to honour other teams that have been successful throughout the years.

Situated within the ground, Laochra Mhaigh Eo will showcase high quality ceramic wall tiles featuring personalised and engraved messages of acknowledgement and congratulation to Mayo’s GAA heroes, as personally worded by the donors sponsoring each tile.

The individual tiles will be installed on white tiles with the iconic red and green colours to create the effect of Mayo’s county colours. It will form a lasting tribute to the players, coaches, volunteers and global fanbase.

The initiative will offer Mayo supporters locally and all over the globe the opportunity to contribute to the resurfacing of the pitch at MacHale Park, which will enable teams to compete at the highest level for their county, all while recording a personalised message on one of the tiles available for the wall.

The purpose of resurfacing the pitch is to offer the same opportunity for all future generations who represent Mayo.

With Laochra Mhaigh Eo, you can buy your very own personalised tile and have your name or a loved one’s name in MacHale Park forever. Your personalised message will be displayed alongside the Mayo crest.

“This makes for the perfect gift for your Mayo-supporting friends and family, or even a treat for yourself,” said Mayo GAA County Board chairman Liam Moffatt. “You can also order a personalised replica of your tile as a memento or to give as a gift. These plaques are exact copies of the tile you have ordered to be installed at MacHale Park.

“The tiles will be installed in March 2021. In the meantime, you will receive a certificate to tell you that your tile has been purchased and will be installed in March 2021.”

The standard tile is 150mm x 150mm with three lines of text, 20 characters (spaces and punctuation count as characters) per line, plus the logo. The cost to purchase this will be €250.

It is planned to invite a number of supporters who purchase a tile during phase one to the official launch of the project in MacHale Park in March 2021. You can purchase your tile now from www.mayogaawall.com.
