Passing of retired District Court Judge who served in Mayo

Tributes have been paid to retired District Court Judge Bernard Brennan, who has passed away at his home at Tubbertelly, Tubbercurry, surrounding by his devoted family.

Judge Brennan was known for his wit on the bench, as well as his compassionate manner.

For many years, Judge Brennan sat in what was known as District 4 in the courts service whose courts venues included Ballyhaunis, Claremorris, Castlerea and Ballaghaderreen.

Amongst those to express online condolences to the Brennan family on their loss has been retired District Court Judge Mary Devins and her husband, Jimmy.

They described the deceased as "a wonderful vibrant man who brought all his humanity to his professional career."

Predeceased by his infant son Brian and his brother Mattie, Bernard will be greatly missed by his wife Nancy and his children Noreen, Evelyn, Rory, Hilary and Barry, sons-in-law John, Tom and James, daughters-in-law Amanda and Monika, his eleven treasured grandchildren Brian, Conor, Thomas, Anna, Danny, Shane, Ruby, Eleanor, Amelia, Will and Patrick, brothers Mickey and Nathy, sisters Nora and Mary Enda, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, neighbours, relatives and many friends, to whom sympathy is tendered.

Requiem Mass for the repose of his soul takes place tomorrow (Thursday) in St. John Evangalist Church, Tubbercurry, at 12 noon with the burial afterwards in Rhue Cemetery.

Due to government and HSE guidelines the Funeral Mass and burial will be private for family only.
