ONE of Mayo and Ireland's most successful darts players is hoping to compete against the likes of Michael van Gerwen, Peter Wright and world champion Gerwyn Price.

Martin Heneghan, from Roundfort, will enter the Professional Darts Corporation's (PDC) Qualifying School in February in an attempt to win a coveted two-year tour card.

Martin has enjoyed much success in Irish darting circles. As well as playing and captaining Mayo and his country, he won his biggest singles title to date in claiming the WDF Europe Cup singles competition back in 2018 in Budapest.

He will be one of over 650 players competing as they bid to win one of 29 PDC tour cards to play on the professional circuit over the next two years.

Martin will be competing on Stage 1B, which takes place between February 11 – 13 in Milton Keynes, and will hope to qualify for the final stage, which will then take place from February 14-17, where the remaining 128 players left following the qualifying rounds will compete for the 29 tour cards on offer.

He is wished the very best of luck in his quest.
