Brazilian football wizard returns home after Ballina Town stint

Ballina Town FC has bid a fond farewell to a Brazilian signing who lit up the Mayo Football League for the past four years.

Fabiano Macario, with his silken samba skills, caused huge panic for defenders the length and breadth of the county during his time with the Town, but his time in Mayo has now come to an end as he has returned to his native Brazil.

Paying tribute on social media, Ballina Town FC said: “After arriving in 2017, Fabiano played a pivotal role in one of the club's most successful periods, winning three Super Cups, one league cup and the Super League title in 2018.

“The man from Cabo Frio terrorised defenders over the past four years with his mesmerising runs, skills and goals.

“Fabiano became a Town hero not only at Belleek Park, but also around the town and county with his underage Futsal coaching as well as his friendly personality and infectious smile.

“Thanks for the memories Fab and we hope to see you back in Ballina someday.”

There were many tributes paid by Town team-mates and supporters, with player Dylan McKee saying: “Best of luck Fabiano Macario. Town legend and one of the best players I played with. You will be missed buddy.”

Kind words came from far and wide, with former Claremorris manager Mark Peters commenting: “Best of luck Fabiano, safe home. Really enjoyed watching you play even when you 'terrorised' our defence on many occasions over the last few years.”
