Mayo Football League experiences a surge in entries

The Mayo Football League has announced an increase of 26% in the number of junior teams entering this year, bringing the total from 34 last season up to 43 this season.

There will also be 14 new teams taking part in the inaugural Under 21 League, which will get adult football in Mayo up and running next month.

Due to the increase in junior teams, a fifth division has been created (League Three), which will be sponsored by CMR Fire & Security.

Ballinrobe Town return to the league after an absence of five years, while there are B teams from Ballyheane, Ballyglass, Fahy Rovers, Moy Villa and Swinford, and C teams from Conn Rangers, Claremorris and Manulla.

The Mayo Football League season will commence with the opening round of the Under 21 League on the weekend of June 12/13, while the junior teams will kick-off on the weekend of June 26/27 with the first round of the Calor Gas Super and Premier Cups.

In the top two divisions, the Super League and Premier League, teams will be divided into two groups of five after nine rounds. Points accumulated after those first nine rounds will be carried into the new groups. If two teams are level on points, positions will be decided by the head to head result or, if necessary, a playoff.

Meanwhile, the season will conclude with two cup finals weekends on November 13/14 and November 20/21.

The fixture list as released does not include dates for the FAI Junior Cup or Connaught Cup, and may be subject to change. The fixture list can be downloaded from the Mayo Football League website.
