Connacht Rugby sign prop Greg McGrath from Leinster

Connacht Rugby have announced a further addition to the professional squad with the signing of Greg McGrath.

McGrath, who can play as a tighthead or loosehead prop, joins from Leinster Rugby, where he made three appearances – the first of those coming against Connacht at the RDS last January.

The 24-year-old has been capped at Ireland Under 20 level and was playing in the Energia All-Ireland League with Lansdowne RFC before he began training with Leinster during the season.

Commenting on today’s news, Connacht Rugby head coach Andy Friend said: “We’re really pleased to welcome Greg to Connacht Rugby. He will give us the added depth that we need at tighthead but his ability to play at loose is another boost too.

“He’s very highly regarded on the club scene and has made a good impression during his time at Leinster, so we’re looking forward to his arrival.”

Greg said he’s looking forward to becoming a Connacht player. “I’m very proud to be joining Connacht and signing my first professional contract. Connacht have a great history of developing players and giving them an opportunity to impress, so I hope to make a positive impact there. I’m looking forward to making the move to the west and seeing what the future has in store.”
