Mayo claim Nancy Murray Cup with victory over Tyrone
Mayo are Nancy Murray Cup champions 2021 following a 3-8 to 1-12 victory over Tyrone in Pairc Seán Mac Diarmada, Carrick-on-Shannon, this afternoon.
Leading 2-6 to 0-4 at half-time and 3-7 to 0-5 on 40 minutes, the goals scored by Ciara Delaney (two) and team captain Helen O'Malley, Mayo appeared to be cruising to victory until Tyrone produced a stunning comeback that had them within a point of their opponents with the game heading into injury time.
Tyrone were on the attack pushing for an equaliser when Mayo intercepted their advance and worked a shooting opportunity for substitute Orna Hession, who duly obliged in putting the ball over the bar to give Mayo a two-point advantage with time running out.
Mayo then battled extremely hard to prevent Tyrone from advancing down the field for a chance at the goal they needed to claim victory.
It's a first Nancy Murray Cup title for Mayo and caps a brilliant first year back in adult camogie for the county in a long number of years.
