Former League of Ireland star takes charge at Castlebar Celtic FC

Castlebar Celtic FC has confirmed the appointment of Stevie Gavin as the club's new senior team manager.

Stevie returns to the the role which he held from 2013-2015.

He has an impressive playing CV, having played at League of Ireland level with Bohemians, Longford Town and Athlone Town.

Stevie played more than 100 league games with Athlone and appeared in an FAI Senior Cup final with Longford Town.

His family has a long and distinguished history with the Castlebar Celtic. His father Sean is a past chairman of the club while is grand-uncle Liam Gavin captained the first Celtic team to win the Connaught Youths Cup in 1946/47 season.

Club chairperson Joe McDonald expressed delight that Stevie agreed to take on the responsibility and wished him well in the post.

"He played with the club at all levels and has a great knowledge of Castlebar Celtic FC and its sense of ambition and drive," he added.

Joe paid tribute to Brian Mannion for all his work and dedication to the senior team since the departure of Michael McNicholas early in the season.
