Son of Mayo native linked with German Bundesliga move

John Joe Patrick Finn of Getafe looks set to be on the move from his home city of Madrid to top-half Bundesliga challengers Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany.

John Patrick, as he goes by, is reported to be a prime target of the German club as his current contract expires with Getafe in June 2022.

Eintracht Frankfurt have helped to polish illustrious players such as Serbia’s Luka Jovic in the past, before his €60 million sale to Real Madrid in 2019.

Frankfurt currently contend for continental qualification at the halfway stage of the German Bundesliga.

The 18-year-old made six appearances in La Liga last season but is yet to appear in Spain’s top flight this year after the appointment of former Spurs boss Quique Sanchez Flores at Getafe in the summer of 2021.

John Joe Patrick Finn’s father, John Finn, was from Ballyhaunis and moved to the Spanish capital in the 1990s.

He unfortunately passed away several years ago and his two sons were raised in Madrid with their Cameroonian mother.

Finn, however, has declared his allegiance to the boys in green after Ireland Under-21 manager Jim Crawford called him up to the youth squad early last year.

A move has been mooted for some seasons as John Patrick has been linked with Leeds United and Manchester United in recent times while also snubbing an approach from the English FA over switching nationalities.

The mercurial central midfielder lately signed on with a major sports agency based in Madrid.

They boast Spanish internationals such as Alvaro Morata and Dani Olmo on their books.

Interestingly, the sporting genes have extended to his younger brother Brandon who made his debut for Ireland Under-15s just last month.
