John William appointed first junior captain at Ballyhaunis Golf Club

BALLYHAUNIS Golf Club has announced John William Burke as its inaugural junior club captain for 2022.

Said the club in announcing his appointment on its Facebook page: 'We believe it is a very fitting honour for a young man who epitomises everything that is good about golf in general, and junior golf in particular.

'John William has enjoyed numerous on-course successes to date, including landing the 2021 Irish Junior Open Gary Player trophy. He gained national and indeed international attention when achieving the incredible feat of shooting a 59 gross over 18 holes recently at Ballycastle GC, a round which included a hole-in-one at a par 4 and two eagles.

'John William thoroughly deserves all this success because of his incredible devotion to practising and improving at the game he loves.

'We believe John William to be an excellent role model for young, aspiring golfers and an ideal ambassador and representative of junior golf at our club. He wears his success with a modesty and a graciousness that are a credit to him and to his parents and family.'
