Mayo ceremony in honour of first garda to be appointed in February 1922
A plaque has been unveiled in Westport today in honour of the first member of the Civic Guard.
It was a lovely tribute to the late PJ Kerrigan who became a member of the police force - later to become An Garda Síochána - in February 1922.
The plaque will be unveiled at the Fairgreen in Westport, outside the garda station.
PJ Kerrigan was a native of the Fairgreen and had a distinguished career.
