Foxford mourning tragic death of popular local man

The community of Foxford is mourning the tragic death of popular local man, Paddy (Pauric) Kelly, Belass.

Formerly of Ballyconnelly, Newmills, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal, he died on Monday from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle collision on the N4 near Ballinalack, Co. Westmeath.

His wife, Margaret, also suffered serious injuries in the crash and she is recovering in Tallaght Hospital, Dublin.

Wishing Margaret in her recovery, Councillor Neil Cruise said the community is devastated by the accident which claimed the life of a widely respected personality.

Speaking to Midwest Radio, he said: "The town is shrouded in sadness since news of the tragedy was first revealed last Monday evening.

"Paddy was a very decent and sincere man who lived in our community for many years.

"He went about his work as an electrical contractor in a very diligent manner and he was a dedicated family man.

"Paddy's acts of kindness were done in a quiet way every day and he was very good to the people of Foxford.

"Everybody who knew him and worked with him will miss him dearly.

"We send our prayers to Margaret in her recuperation. The Kelly and Murray families have suffered a huge and sad blow.

"We will remember Paddy with fondness, the positive comments he always made. We are all the better for having known Paddy. His like won't come along this way too often."

Paddy is greatly missed by his loving and devastated wife of almost 50 years, Margaret (neé Murray), his heartbroken daughter Elaine, her husband Lorcan, his adoring grandchildren Iarla, Joni and Shay, who were the light of their Gaga's life, his brother Gerard (Scotland), sister Noreen (Letterkenny), brothers and sister, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, to whom heartfelt sympathy is tendered.
