New initiative to help Mayo smokers quit
HSE Community Healthcare West and Mayo Libraries have come together to launch a new health awareness bookmark initiative.
The bookmarks will be distributed in libraries throughout County Mayo to encourage and signpost readers via health messages and supports to improve their health and wellbeing.
The first bookmark encourages smokers, their family or friends wishing to quit to contact the HSE Quit Smoking West team.
Free Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is available to all smokers who engage with the team up until the end of the year.
The service provides free ongoing one-to-one support (via telephone, face-to-face or online) advice to anyone who wishes to quit smoking.
A stop smoking advisor will work with you to:
• Explore habits and any concerns about stopping smoking or vaping.
• Assess your level of smoking addiction.
• Provide support to deal with challenges.
• Discuss stop smoking and provide FREE stop smoking medications (NRT).
Evidence has shown that those who use this free one-to-one support along with NRT, are four times more likely to quit and stay quit.
This free service is available throughout Mayo, Galway and Roscommon.
To get in touch with any of the Stop Smoking Advisors Alan (Castlebar and Swinford), Vivienne (Ballina) or Pat (Westport) call 091-737262 or email quitsmoking.west@hse.ie and start your quit journey today.
