Foster and Allen celebrate the fleadh with new single

Foster and Allen are releasing a new single to celebrate the return of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann to Mullingar.

The fleadh is the world’s largest annual celebration of Irish music, language, song and dance.

It is expected that in the region of 500,000 visitors will be in Mullingar for the fleadh this year.

The first national festival of Irish traditional music was held in Mullingar in 1951, and the 2022 one has been named ‘The Homecoming’ because of the Comhaltas history in the town (it was founded here).

The fleadh has special memories for Mick Foster in particular, as in 1963 he won his first Leinster Junior Piano Accordion Championship in Portarlington, and he won a Junior All-Ireland Championship in 1964 in Clones.

Mick also won the Senior All-Ireland Piano Accordion Championship in Clones in 1968 and again in 1970 in Listowel.

Mick’s wife Moyra and his cousin Bridget Walshe, who sadly passed away last year, wrote the new Foster and Allen single, ‘The Mullingar Fleadh’.
