Festival returns to northwest Mayo town

The traditional festival week is returning to Belmullet. Taking place from August 13 to 19, the week-long series of events is sure to have something for everyone.

Belmullet Swim kick-starts events on Saturday, August 13. An official Swim Ireland event, it will be held in open water, starting at Belmullet Tidal Pool at 6 p.m. Register online with Swim Ireland.

On Monday, August 15, Belmullet’s age-old Fair Day (Lá an logha) takes place as usual in the town. Trading stalls line the streets accompanied by music entertainment on Carter Square. This event is administered by Mayo County Council, who can be contacted directly for details.

Belmullet’s iconic Heritage Day takes place on Thursday, August 18. This year the focus is on the celebration of local skills, craft and produce, supporting small and medium size business throughout the region.

On-street craft demonstrators, local food artisans, heritage and vintage exhibitors will all mix on the streets of the town to make for a day not to be missed, with live music all day until late.

On Friday, August 19, an evening street spectacular is planned from 7 p.m., with on-street performers and a breathtaking firework display over Blacksod Bay. What better way to celebrate the festival’s return?
