Battle of Ardnaree artwork unveiled in Ballina

BALLINA Community Clean Up Group hosted the official unveiling of the Battle of Ardnaree artwork last Friday evening on the banks of the River Moy.

The group has extended thanks to the gifted artists, sponsors, hardworking volunteers, talented musicians, and loyal supporters for their help with this milestone project.

All planned phases of the commemorative project have now been successfully executed, with a full-length YouTube documentary on the town's history, a song commemorating the battle, the enormous art installation at the site of Ardnaree Castle, and the unveiling that illuminated the artwork which will enhance the riverside for many years to come.

Artists: Brenna Rice, Meaghan McNamara, Ciara Casey, and Kevin Loftus.

The project commemorates the slaughter, by the English army, of 3,000 Scots in Ardnaree in 1586 in what was a historic time for the town, county, province and country.

The art installation represents a hugely significant day in Irish history that has been long forgotten.
