Mayo's Pure Clothing launches retail partnership with Sligo's EJ Menswear

In May of this year, sustainable clothing brand Pure Clothing joined forces with one of the country’s largest independent retailers, EJ Menswear.

Launched in store by Mayo GAA star Oisín Mullin, their products have been very popular with customers in the Sligo retailer.

This is another step in the right direction for Ballina-based brand Pure, who have experienced some great successes in recent years.

Initiatives such as their ‘Restore with Pure’ programme and the planting of 1,000 trees in Ireland saw Pure Clothing awarded Best Project in Natural Environment at the Business Spirit Awards.

The pair behind the brand, Peter Timlin and Richard Grimes, were also recognised in The Sunday Independent’s Top 30 Under 30 list in 2020, while Pure Clothing was the winner of the Arnotts Pitch ’21 competition and their products are now available for purchase both in store and online with Ireland’s largest department store, Arnotts.

The early success of Pure can be largely attributed to the sizeable online following the business has garnered. The company went viral on the video-posting app TikTok, showcasing the pair’s journey to setting up the company and their sustainable model. They currently have over 50,000 followers.

Their social media success will be nothing new to EJ Menswear, a business that is hugely familiar with viral videos and huge online audiences. More recently, the Sligo retailer has been putting an increasing focus on sustainability making the new partnership a perfect fit.

Eamon Cunningham of EJ Menswear said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have their stuff in store. Not only does it look great, it is some of the best quality stuff we have seen and is the product of a fully sustainable supply chain. High quality labour, high quality materials and a fully circular economy – what’s not to love?”

Their ‘Restore with Pure’ initiative is also active in store, allowing customers to return any product that is damaged or has reached the end of its life cycle for a free repair or upcycle.

Peter Timlin commented: “Getting into EJ Menswear was a dream of ours since we first set out on our journey to try and make fashion more sustainable. We have always been huge admirers of the business they have built, particularly their similar viral marketing approach!

“We are extremely grateful to be working with such a well established local retailer and we hope this partnership will capture much of what is great about doing business here in the west.”

Richard Grimes added: “Our goal at Pure Clothing is to build a stylish and modern clothes brand using sustainable supply chains and eco-friendly materials. Bringing our brand to one of the largest retailers in Ireland was a huge win for us.

“Pure Clothing is an Irish brand that wants to spread the message that you can be fashionable while also being sustainable, two things that EJ’s really captures.”
