Housing boost for central Mayo village

A new 12-unit housing development is set to proceed at Keelogues Road in Ballyvary.

The investment will represent a major boost for the local community.

But the cathaoirleach of Castlebar Municipal District is insisting the project should include a playground.

Councillor Michael Kilcoyne said all project of this nature going forward should having a playing amenity for children incorporated.

Iarla Moran, head of the district, said the council will work towards achieving this objective subject to funding.

“I am not happy that it was not considered from the outset,” stated Councillor Kilcoyne.

Councillor Donna Sheridan said an affordable housing option should also be part of all new housing projects.
