Mayo's Dogwood Designs at cutting edge of modern furniture design

DOGWOOD Designs is a new up and coming Irish furniture design business and is creating quite the buzz amongst interior and furniture design enthusiasts.

It was established by Danny Ogge and Anna O’Grady in response to a growing demand in the Irish market for modern cutting edge plywood furniture design.

Having lived in Melbourne for 13 years, the couple moved with their family to Westport in 2020 at the height of the pandemic.

“We had lots of time to reflect and even though it seemed like a crazy time to start a business when the whole country was locked down, we decided to a give it a go anyway,” says Anna.

And it’s lucky they did. The business is going from strength to strength, with a waiting list for many of their designs.

“I think people have had a lot of time to reflect on the homes they live in. For years, flat pack furniture has been all the rage. But when it comes down to it, fast furniture, just like fast fashion, has a very limited shelf life,” says Anna.

People are now looking to invest in more lifetime pieces that are both beautifully designed and also more sustainable. More and more people are looking to invest in the spaces that they spend the most time in, such as bathrooms, kitchens and living rooms.

Initially starting with one bathroom vanity design, chief designer Danny has now had to introduce a product range in response to the demand for his designs.

Danny has a passion for creating high end hardwood and birch plywood furniture and is committed to creating a product that is loved and lasts. He is inspired by both modern Australian and Scandinavian design.

Each piece is made in the workshop in Westport - designed with simplicity and strength.

Dogwood Designs take pride in quality, craftsmanship and attention to detail, committed to making lifetime pieces with a negligible footprint. They have designed a range of modern hardwood and birch plywood bathroom vanities and kitchens. This can be viewed on their website https://www.dogwooddesigns.ie/.

They say: “We have been very lucky to have been embraced by the design community here in Ireland.

“When you start out as a small business, it can be hard to get your message out there. We use social media to share our projects with our followers and luckily we have had the opportunity to have our designs featured on TV (RTÉ Bungalow Bliss), as well as a number of Irish interiors magazines.”

Dogwood Designs are happy to assist you in planning a future design for your bathroom or kitchen. Keep up to date with their upcoming projects on Instagram and Facebook.
