Passing of much-loved member of central Mayo community

The death has taken place of Mary Kathleen Durcan (née Reddington), Middletown, Manulla, Castlebar.

A member of a widely-known and respected family, she died peacefully in the excellent care of Mayo University Hospital.

Many tributes, in which her warm and gentle nature were acknowledged, have been paid to the deceased.

"We will miss a wonderful neighbour with a heart of gold," one sympathiser wrote on the condolences pages of the death notices website, RIP.ie

Another stated: "I have so many fond memories of wonderful visits (to her home) where she filled our childhood with chocolate cake, hugs and love."

A further tribute outlined: "She will always be remembered fondly for the many laughs we had."

In a tribute, Castlebar Mitchels GAA Club said it was with great sadness their members learned of the passing of Mary Kathleen Durcan.

"We extend our deepest sympathy to the Durcan family at this sad time.

"The deceased is mother of our underage coach Kevin and grandmother to Paddy, James, Mark, Gary and Conal," the club tribute added.

Predeceased by her husband Paddy, parents Michael and Mary Redddington, sister Nora and brothers Michael, Tom, Tony and John, she is sadly missed by her heartbroken and loving family: Walter, Michael, Padraic, Pauline (Kilcoyne, Letterkenny), Kevin, John and Sharon (Fox, Foxford), brother Paddy (New York), sisters-in-law, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, carers, relatives, kind neighbours, and many friends.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.

Reposing at Coady’s Funeral Home, Linenhall Street, Castlebar, on Wednesday evening from 4 pm to 7 p.m.

Funeral Mass takes place on Thursday at 12 noon in St. Joseph's Church, Keelogues, prior to interment in Keelogues Cemetery.
