Skateboard park needed in south Mayo town

MAYO County Council has been asked to find a site and funding for a skateboard park in Claremorris.

The request was made by Councillor Tom Connolly by way of a notice of motion.

Speaking at an area meeting, he commented that Claremorris is one of the best areas for sporting facilities and a number of people have come to him about the need for a skateboard park.

There is already one operating very successfully in Westport.

An ideal place, he suggested, would be beside McMahon Park.

He asked that the council would look to see if a suitable site could be identified.

The parks superintendent has been asked to carry out an assessment.
