Mayo street confusion rages over eircode errors

Eircode errors are causing confusion in two streets in Castlebar and a local councillor wants the matter urgently addressed.

Councillor Ger Deere said post and parcel delivery personnel, as well as visitors, find themselves going astray when seeking out addresses at Lower Charles Street and Gallows Hill in the county town.

The problem with the Lower Charles Street eircode is that it directs people to nearby McCormack Estate - which is an inconvenience but not a serious one.

But those searching for Gallows Hill are directed to a location in Ballycastle in north Mayo - over 60 miles away.

He said: "I was told that the council can make a submission to sort this matter out with Google or whoever. It needs to happen."

However, Iarla Moran, head of the Castlebar Municipal District, said the matter has nothing to do with the council.

It appears they come under the auspices of the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner and submissions may have to be made to have the matter resolved.
